In the beautiful city of Mobile, Alabama, where the echoes of history resonate through moss-draped trees and storied plantation homes, we find a trailblazing legal luminary whose impact on the community transcends the boundaries of the courtroom. Moshae, an advocate for justice and change, embraces the rich cultural tapestry of her hometown while striving to create a brighter future for its residents. I am so honored to introduce Moshae Donald as our July-August cover of The Brownstone Experience. Moshae Donald is a 37-year-old attorney from Mobile, AL, a mother of a 12-year-old son, former elementary school teacher, and upcoming bride. She shares her journey and passion for the legal field, especially advocating for children.

Chateau de Mardi

On a picturesque summer day, our creative team was ready to rendezvous with Moshae at a stunning Mardi Gras-themed Airbnb in Mobile, a city that holds a profound place in both our hearts. Nestled along the Gulf Coast, this historic port city has seen the tumultuous chapters of the past unfold within its waters and shores. From the recent discovery of the Clotilda, the last slave ship to enter the United States, to its vibrant Mardi Gras traditions, Mobile stands as a testament to resilience, culture, and transformation.

My family’s roots lie in the bayous of Louisiana, embracing Spanish and French ancestry, while Mobile remains the cradle of my maternal side. For Moshae, her connection to this city runs even deeper, for it is where she was born and raised, shaping her values and passion for serving the community.

Currently practicing law in the neighboring city of Prichard, which is known for its predominantly black working-class population, Moshae embodies the spirit of advocacy. Her devotion to the community knows no bounds, and it permeates every aspect of her work as an attorney.

We discuss the importance of voting and making informed decisions, especially for local policies and candidates. It’s not always as simple as showing up to the polls, but we have to do our research and find out the views of candidates before voting. Moshae explains that even if people are busy, they can still look for candidates who align with their values, including looking for representation from their own community.

A Leap of Faith and Historic Run for District Attorney

In 2022, Moshae embarked on a groundbreaking journey that would inspire many and leave an indelible mark on the city’s history. Observing an open seat for the District Attorney position and a lack of challengers, she fearlessly stepped up to the plate. Her campaign aimed to usher in a new era of fighting nonviolent crimes for minorities, signaling a desire to reform the justice system from within.

Throughout her campaign, Moshae exhibited a modern and innovative approach, leveraging her platform to educate the community about voting rights, her policy proposals, and her personal background. Her advocacy for justice and racial equality echoed the sentiments of legendary civil rights activist John Lewis, who urged individuals to create “good trouble, necessary trouble.”

Although Moshae’s bid for District Attorney did not result in victory, her campaign left an indomitable impact on the city and its people. By standing up for her beliefs and advocating for change, she exemplified the spirit of courage and determination that resonates throughout the annals of history.

Brick by Brick: A Podcast Unearthing Stories of Change

My conversation with Moshae extends to “Brick by Brick,” a podcast by The BrownStone Experience, where we discuss her journey, vision, and aspirations for the community. Her inspiring story serves as a rallying cry for all those who seek to bring about positive change, encouraging others to take charge of their destinies and stand up for justice.

The conversation moves to Moshae’s entrepreneurial ventures including opening a CBD store. She explains her motivation to provide safe and high-quality products after facing difficulties finding such products for her personal use. Moshae shares her next entrepreneurial endeavor, a cookbook, which she intends to use to share her story and experiences.

A Legacy of Hope

As the sun sets over the Gulf Coast, we bid farewell to Mobile, carrying with us the legacy of Moshae—a beacon of hope and an embodiment of courage. Her journey as a practicing attorney, advocate, and change-maker continues to inspire the hearts of many, reminding us that justice and compassion can bridge the gaps of history and shape a future rooted in fairness and equality.

In a world that often feels tumultuous, Moshae’s relentless pursuit of justice and her dedication to the community serve as a guiding light—a testament to the transformative power of determination and belief. For Mobile, and indeed the world, Moshae remains an influential force, weaving together the threads of history and the aspirations of tomorrow.
